General Nelson Villegas assumes command of the National Police of Ecuador
The General Inspector, Nelson Humberto Villegas Ubillús, was designated as General Commander of the National Police, through Executive Decree No. 423 issued by the Constitutional President of the Republic of Ecuador Licensed Lenín Moreno Garcés, dated May 23, 2018.
Within his academic preparation, he has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Law and Criminology, a Doctor of Jurisprudence, a Bachelor’s Degree in Political and Social Sciences and a Specialist in Criminal Law and Indigenous Justice; He has conducted several specialization courses at national and international level in the areas of: Airport Security, Counterterrorism (Terrorist Subversion), Specialization in Intelligence Operations and Drug Addiction Prevention and other psychosocial risks, among others.
He was born on September 23, 1963 in the city of Baños, he is 35 years old of service, he belongs to the forty-seventh line officers’ promotion, he graduated as a second lieutenant in 1985 at the Superior School of Police. In 2003 he was an assistant officer in Washington – United States.
Thanks to his professionalism and proven responsibility, he has earned the first, second and third category awards, as well as the professional merit decorations in the «Grand Officer» and «Caballero» degrees. During the exercise of his functions, the civil and police authorities have granted him several public and private congratulations for his efficient work. Throughout his career he has held different positions and responsibilities where he has led with commitment and dedication, which undoubtedly constitute merits for his current appointment.
